“The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease,
For His compassions never fail.
They are new every morning;

This verse came to mind last night as I reflected This verse came to mind last night as I reflected on what had happened in our Capitol yesterday and my emotions as I saw the images of things I never thought could happen.

It is easy to be fearful right now. To have fears about what will happen to our country on top of fears about the pandemic that is still raging.

I love the imagery the psalmist uses here - that we will not fear even if the mountains slip into the sea. Can you picture that happening? Can you imagine the fear you would have if the earth changed like that? And yet the psalmist says that even if that happened, we wouldn’t need to fear because God is our refuge and strength and our help in trouble. So as I look at what our country is going through right now, this Psalm reminds me not to be fearful.

In verse 10 of this Psalm, God speaks and says, “Be still and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Let’s do that today. Let’s be still, cease striving, rest in Him because He is still on His throne and He will be exalted.
